You are receiving this as you have signed up to receive Republican Party of Great Britain newsletters. The party is now soon to be inaugurated.
A preinaugural meeting has now been fixed for Saturday, at 2pm, 1st October 2011, and this will be held at Conway Hall. Conway Hall is at 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4RL. It is very close to Holborn Underground station.
Members and newsletter subscibers live all over the country and so I hope this time and location will be as convenient as possible for all.
I will start the meeting by setting out a vision for a republican party. The brief formal agenda will sent out later on although, of course, there will be plenty of opportunity for informal discussion.
The main purposes of the meeting are to meet, discuss and importantly to begin the process of creating the party.
For this during the meeting, we will need to establish a Steering Committee to set things in train. Initially the Steering committee is open to any member who attends the meeting. (Newsletter subscribers may join at the meeting if they wish to be on the Steering Committee.) We need from three to nine people for the Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee will have the task of
- producing a party constitution
- registering the party with the Electoral Commission
- selecting Steering Committee officers: leader, treasurer, secretary, campaign manager
- setting up a bank account
- producing a formal membership list
- arranging for a first members' General Meeting to approve the constitution and vote for officers and a formal Committee
Following that the Party will be up and running and the new elected committee can decide further action.
Please do not be detered from being on the Steering Committee if London is not very accessible. Whereas it is important that committee members have met each other, we can hold some meetings on the internet.
We wish to create a nationwide party and so it is inevitable that members will live in all parts of the country.
And please do not imagine any special experience is necessary. As well as the officers we need people to be on the committee to give advice and opinion.
If you are not on the internet, we can make arrangements by post and telephone.
Remember this is a general meeting. The setting up of the Steering Committee is just one item. There is a lot more to do and discuss.
